49 animals have been killed since the farm owner Terry Thompson set his animals loose in Ohio on Tuesday before committing suicide, according to an article. Animals that were set loose include tigers, lions and bears.
Authorities were afraid the animals would attack humans and shot them. Others were captured and placed in zoos.
When authorities and health experts went to the Thompson farm to investigate on animal cruelty, they found that “some of the cages weren’t padlocked and were secured with plastic ties…They also thought the fences were low enough to allow the animals to get out.”
The state of the farm was not qualified to keep the animals. Even a neighbor complained when horses went to their car and started licking it.
This is one of the wackiest stories that I have been following over the last few days. One thing I don’t understand and doesn’t seem to be covered in reports is why the Thompsons decided to continue to keep the animals instead of donating them to the zoo.
The article states that the Thompsons took in the animals because no one wanted them but the adoption grew to a point where even the wife wanted him to stop taking in the animals.
Thompson’s sister says that he did this as a result of financial problems. My question still remains, why didn’t they contact authorities or donate them to a zoo?
